Comparison between an advanced numerical simulation of sheet incremental forming using adaptive remeshing and experimental results

This paper proposes the use of a remeshing method based on refinement and coarsening strategies to reduce the number of elements during simulations of single point incremental forming processes (SPIF). The refinement can only be applied to the sheet elements close to the tool. The coarsening strategy is applied to refined elements when the tool moves away from these elements. A 45° truncated cone has been studied. Experimental tests have been realized on a 3D milling machine to valid the numerical model and the remeshing strategy. A good agreement has been observed between numerical and experimental results.
