Experimental, analytical and numerical analysis to investigate the tensile behaviour of hemp fibre yarns
Natural fibre composites are emerging as the alternative of synthetic fibre composite materials in several applications due to their limited recyclability and biodegradability. In this study, the tensile behaviour of hemp fibre yarns was investigated experimentally, analytically and numerically. Experimental analysis was performed to obtain force-displacement curves of hemp fibre yarns and tensile properties were calculated. Analytical analysis was carried out in order to model the mechanical behaviour of hemp fibre yarns theoretically. Numerical analysis was also performed to validate the results and reverse engineering optimization method were used to optimize the results. The obtained results recommend the expansion of hemp fibre woven fabric composites utilization in different engineering applications such as automotive, aerospace, etc. where high stiffness per unit weight is significant.
